Anuj Desai first advocated for the shift towards health IT when the concept was at its genesis; he’s just now reaping the fruits of his efforts as the alignment of policy, innovation and an aging population demands his expertise. Desai spearheads the New York Digital Health Accelerator and is a matchmaker for start-ups, institutions and providers. His astute eye for innovation has helped to birth over 33 pilots and 150 high tech jobs in the sector so far.
Desai targets tenacity and communication as key in developing the largest funded health IT accelerator in the country. “Knowing and communicating your end goal is key – forge relationships with partners who share your mission,” he says.
Desai also emphasizes that healthcare is moving towards care coordination and value based systems. “At the core is patient engagement,” he says. “The idea of putting patient at the center has moved beyond novelty; it’s the new normal.”
