Sachin Jain, MD, MBA, laughingly compares his life to that of the main character in Slumdog Millionaire, tapping on experiences gathered throughout his career to reach his greater purpose. Jain, a physician by training, recently became the chief medical officer at CareMore Health Systems in California, where he is developing strategies to revolutionize care management and delivery pathways. Previously, he was the chief medical information and innovation officer at Merck.
Jain’s array of professional experiences – at the VA, within the private sectors and as a physician – gives his singular opinion the heft of many voices. He also credits his personal values in guiding his career decisions.
“I’ve a high bar to make a difference, partly because I’ve been afforded the support of a tremendous family, mentors and global platforms to transform care,” he says. Never shying from ambiguity and looking broadly, Jain’s macro focus is on helping CareMore find solutions for the growing aging population in our country. “Sometimes, we get too focused on flashy technologies, when subtlety is key.” A keen observer of innovation, he also believes entrepreneurs need to delve deeper into problems that may be subtle and not so blatant, but very potent.
