The 2017 MedTech Boston 40 Under 40 Healthcare Innovators

15. Gaurav Singal, MD
Vice President, Data Strategy and Product Development, Foundation Medicine

Gaurav Singal, MDDr. Singal began his career as a computer scientist looking to build artificially intelligent robots, but after developing an interest in neural prosthetics, he enrolled in medical school at the Harvard–MIT Program of Health Sciences and Technology. Upon graduating he spent a decade in research, venture capital and software, before landing on a hybrid career developing software and data products at Foundation Medicine while still seeing patients at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“I love the fact that I get to integrate all of the skills and passions I’ve developed over my career — computer science, medicine, and transforming clinical care,” says Dr. Singal of his current positions. “Though I’m no longer writing software—except on the occasional weekend—I get to work with a team of spectacular software engineers, designers, and product managers, helping bring innovative solutions to life and to the clinic.”

Dr. Singal is the proud father of two little boys, Rohan and Niam, and when he isn’t working enjoys sailing and photography.
