The 2017 MedTech Boston 40 Under 40 Healthcare Innovators

22. Nick Dougherty
Program Director of PULSE@MassChallenge

Nick DoughertyNick Dougherty began working in healthcare as a Student at Boston University’s College of Engineering. Upon graduating he co-founded VerbalCare, a platform intended to help non-verbal patients communicate and, after completing a term at MassChallenge, the company was acquired by Medical Specialties Distributors in 2015.

Now, Dougherty is the director of PULSE@MassChallenge, a healthcare specific accelerator and a strategic component of the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative.

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the impact startup collaboration is having on patient care,” says Dougherty of his workat PULSE. “It’s incredible to see that our inaugural cohort of 31 startups received 80+ offers and are scaling in just a matter of months thanks to partnerships with healthcare Champions.”

Dougherty anticipates that PULSE will become a premiere digital health accelerator, not just because it accelerates startups, but because it accelerates healthcare communities around the world.

When he isn’t working, Dougherty likes to garden and work on his house with his wife, and go to the beach. He’s also a metalhead and currently in the process of recording his second full-length album.
