The 2017 MedTech Boston 40 Under 40 Healthcare Innovators

25. Omar Badri, MD
Co-founder at Medumo Inc., Resident in Internal Medicine/Dermatology at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital

Omar Badri, MD

Dr. Omar Badri didn’t always know he wanted to be a doctor. During college he became interested in the impact of economic determinants on disease and was inspired to perform fieldwork at a free clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. It was there during his work at the clinic that he fell in love with the practice of medicine and decided to go to medical school. He is now in his final years of training in the internal medicine and dermatology program at Harvard.

In addition to being a resident, Dr. Badri is also the co-founder of Medumo, a mobile and web-based platform that delivers instructions and reminders to patients to help manage their care and facilitate clinical intervention on the part of healthcare providers. He conceived of the idea for Medumo during his training, when he found himself increasingly frustrated that he did not have effective and scalable tools to help guide patients during important points in their care.

“It has been incredible to see a concept go from an idea to a working solution,” says Dr. Badri about his work at Medumo. “It was so rewarding to review the data from our early trials and see that use of Medumo resulted in a significant beneficial impact on key outcome and financial metrics.” Use of Medumo has resulted in $500,000-$1,000,000 of increased annual revenue for departments by significantly reducing the no show rate, late cancellations, and procedure failure rates. The impact outcomes and hospital finances has been validated at leading academic institutions and will subject to publication in the coming months. Medumo is currently expanding and signing on various hospitals and provider groups.

When not working, Dr. Badri enjoys spending time with his wife, catching up with friends, traveling, playing video games, and cooking.
