The 2017 MedTech Boston 40 Under 40 Healthcare Innovators

7. Brian Harris
Co-Founder and CEO of MedRhythms

Brian HarrisBrian Harris first realized the power of music after seeing the benefits of a music therapy session first hand. Harris was inspired to go into the field himself, getting certified in Neurologic Music Therapy, or NMT. Following his certification, he started the NMT program at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.

“After seeing that our patients were improving with great clinical outcomes, I knew that this level of care was something that everyone deserved to have, and I became committed to that mission,” he explained.

He and his co-founder, Owen McCarthy began the company MedRhythms, “with the vision to spread access to the highest quality of healthcare globally, and after growing our NMT clinical practice, realized that global access would only be attainable through technology.”

According to its site, MedRhythms is a music therapy service for individuals, facilities and therapists which “focuses on this intersection between music, neuroscience, and technology, providing interventions to achieve optimum outcomes in sensorimotor, speech, language, and cognitive goals in patients.”

The CEO says, “To be a part of our clients’ and their families’ journey through recovery from brain injury and disease is an honor and the most rewarding part of what we do.”

Outside of the office, Harris enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling, and trying new things.
