CataloniaTech: 3D Printing in Life Sciences

For the first time ever, the TOP10 life science 3D Printing firms and institutions from Catalonia are visiting Boston within a delegation hosted by the Catalonia Trade & Investment Office.

Expect refreshments, a technology showcase and some super-techie individuals eager to explain their latest healthtech innovations, made in Catalonia!

Attending firms and institutions are the following:

  • Avinent: Avinent works on two main production and research lines: 1) Avinent Implant System, dedicated to oral implants (from intraoral scanning to finished restoration) and 2) Avinent Digital Health, which focuses on finding solutions for the craniofacial field and for other parts of the body using 3D printing as the basis of the production process.
  • IBEC: The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia uses a model inspired by a creative, innovative new ecosystem based on interaction between research experts in different technologies (nano-bio-info-cogno) to generate new knowledge and engineering solutions in health technology. The knowledge that exists in the IBEC research groups is structured in three broad avenues of knowledge: nanomedicine, cellular and tissue engineering and ICT for health.
  • Diopma: Spin-off company created in 1992 from the Unit of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering of the University of Barcelona (U.B.). The company specializes in providing applied and theoretical research and development (R&D) to the scientific and technological fields of material, chemical and environmental engineering. The main objective at Diopma has always been to increase the industrial leadership improving industrial methods, emphasizing environmental-related aspects.
  • Fira Barcelona: Since 1932, Fira Barcelona organizes and hosts shows and congresses that cover the economy’s main sectors. Fira is one of the most important European trade fair organizations, as its annual economic contribution to the city of Barcelona and its surroundings is estimated at over 2,600 million Euros. Events hosted by Fira Barcelona include the European Cardiology Congress, the World Ophthalmology Congress and the EFORT Congress, among others.
  • Fundació Althaia: Althaia Foundation is a private nonprofit that gives full service regarding healthcare and social care. Althaia’s mission to provide quality, innovative and efficient services to a wide range of medical needs is achieved through an annual income of 26,000 inpatients and 20,000 annual surgeries through a team of 1,800 specialized professionals.
  • Hospital Clínic: Hospital Clínic in Barcelona is a leading institution in innovation and technology implementation in the healthcare sector. Its delegation representative, Mr. F. Rodríguez, is Hospital Clínic’s Technology, Equipments & Procurement Manager.
  • Mastertec: Mastertec offers a wide range of products and services related to all those 3D printing technologies, with a special insight on this technology application on engineering. Grupo (group) Mastertec is divided into three specialized branches: 1) Mastertec Print Solutions, which imports quality printing equipment and solutions, and distributes them through a network with over 100 suppliers, 2) STM Service Management, which specializes in projects and equipment related to document management and 3D printing, and 3) AsorCAD 3D Reverse Engineering Experts, which offers 3D digitalization and CMM services.
  • NEOS Surgery: NEOS Surgery produces and distributes innovative products for neurosurgery, which are the result of thorough research and development processes. Current product line features the Cranial Loop Family, the first 100% PEEK cranial fixation device: It is instrument free, CT/MRI artifact-free, with high strength and safety, as well as a minimal profile.
  • Servocad: Engineering company specialized in product design and its industrial applications. Servocad places a strong involvement at the intersection between electronics and mechanics, always trying to get an outstanding final product integration. Servocad is preparing a new line of business in the field of medical equipment, designing a revolutionary new series of electromechanical devices for applications in micro surgery and micro positioning.
  • Tractivus: Tractivus designs the next generation of implantable medical devices. Their proprietary technologies include 1) a bioactive surface technology with antibacterial properties to avoid bacterial colonization, 2) a new manufacturing process capable of producing personalized medical devices using diagnostic imaging and 3D printing technology, and 3) a new drug delivery system based on biodegradable and biocompatible materials capable of being processed with 3D printing technology to treat different pathologies.
