Tier 2 Intensive Training:
Implementing Collaborative Problem Solving
February 27 – March 1, 2017
Cambridge, MA

Think:Kids and the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) are pleased to invite graduates of our Tier I Training to take the next step in the pathway to fully integrating the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) model. Mental Health clinicians, educators and parents are invited to join Think:Kids leaders for an intensive 2 ½ day symposium focused on the assessment, planning and intervention components of the model.
During this interactive training you will:

  • Practice strategies for implementing the CPS approach in the most challenging situations
  • Learn how to teach the model to others
  • Address common resistances and a lack of “buy-in”
  • Understand when and how to use relational vs. didactic skills training


Additional topics include:

  • The neurobiology underlying the
    Plan B approach
  • Fostering self-regulation through the relational process Plan B
  • Addressing systemic issues such as leadership during culture change
  • Enhancing communication structures
  • Integrating behavioral approaches and therapeutic models
  • Opportunities for continued learning and networking

Prerequisite: A 1-day Think:Kids  Introductory Training or the online Think:Kids Introductory Training, and the 2 1/2 day Think:Kids Intensive Tier 1 Training.

 

 

*Please note: Tier 1 and Tier 2 cannot be taken during the same summer or winter. A minimum of six months is required between Tier 1 and Tier 2 training so that participants have an opportunity to apply and practice what they learn.

 


Schedule

Day 1 (Mon. Feb. 27th): 8:30 AM registration and breakfast, 9 AM – 5 PM training

Day 2 (Tue.  Feb 28th): 9 AM – 5 PM

Day 3 (Wed. March 1st): 9 AM – 1 PM

Lunch will be on your own on Day 1 and Day 2.

A Continental Breakfast will be served each day.

Breaks: There will be two 15-minute breaks on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 there will be one 15-minute break.

Accreditation

Educators: We are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for 16 PDPs.
Psychologists: The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This offering meets the criteria for 16 Continuing Education (CE) credit(s) for psychologists.
Licensed Mental Health Counselors: This training has been approved by MMCEP for 16 continuing education credits.
Social Workers: This training has been approved by the NASW Collaborative of Boston College and Simmons College for 16 continuing education credits.
Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Other: A certificate of attendance will be provided for 16 units which can be submitted to the corresponding professional organization for consideration.

Microsoft New England (MSNE) is a major center for technical innovation and research. Located in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts, the MSNE campus includes two buildings—One Memorial Drive and the recently renovated One Cambridge Center. Travel by T: On the T, take the Red Line to the Kendall/MIT stop. Walk straight up Main Street toward the Longfellow Bridge (past the Post Office, Bank of America). You will see the Parking Garage on your right, Take a right and you can enter the building from the side. Approximately a 5 minute walk.

Parking: We recommend that you take advantage of public transportation (www.mbta.com) if possible, as parking in the area can be costly ($18-$40 per day). To check the rates of nearby lots/garages, go to: Boston Best Parking/Cambridge. Room Reservations: Rooms can be reserved at area hotels, including: the Kendall Hotel, the Liberty HotelBoston Marriott Cambridge, the Courtyard Boston Cambridge,  the Residence Inn and The Boxer Hotel (617-624-0202). Be sure to let them know that you are attending a Mass General Training and ask if they offer MGH discounted rates! Reserve early to ensure availability.
